Kagima was born out of a real incident. We used to rely on an external business chat tool, but a phishing attack that came through a business partner led to one of our own employee accounts being taken over (details are available in this notice, in Japanese).
Analyzing that attack made one thing clear: in the age of AI, no amount of human vigilance can fully eliminate the risk of falling for a sophisticated attack. Rather than relying on people to stay alert, we concluded that the same kind of attack needed to be made structurally impossible.
Kagima is the secure chat system we built from that experience. Based on the actual techniques used against us, it is designed so those techniques cannot work in principle. It is currently offered in beta to partner organizations.
Instead of relying only on a phone number or email address, invitation and registration happen per device. A chat room can only be entered from a registered device, which blocks unauthorized access or impersonation.
Device authentication is performed per chat room. Even if a password is leaked and an account is taken over, a device that hasn't been authorized for that specific room still cannot read its contents.
By combining passkeys with multiple encryption schemes, no third party — including us — can read the contents. Even in the unlikely event our servers were attacked, chat contents remain protected by strong encryption.
Administrators can track activity inside a chat room — which device downloaded what, and when — and export it as an audit log. If a device is lost or stolen, an administrator can disable it immediately, making it possible to identify and contain the scope of any incident.
Each chat room can be set to retain data for 7, 30, or 90 days, after which the data is automatically discarded. New members cannot view past files, which structurally reduces the risk of old data leaking out unnoticed.
